We're a small team based in NYC. We work on random-ass-stuff™ like this. We have world-class "partners, clients, and investors" (friends) who work across healthcare, technology, finance, art, you name it. They've raised money and made news and won awards. They are all-around superstar brilliant and they make our team worth being on!
The people you work with are usually the people you spend the most time in the day with. The ones you give the most energy to. You're probably giving them more of your "life force" than your own family and friends. That's a fcking big deal! Shouldn't we take hiring way more seriously? I mean companies do take it seriously but not THAT seriously. Why are the questions mostly about education and prior work experience? Are those really the main things you care about if I told you you're going to spend 8+ hours a day with this person, sometimes in stressful, shitty, awkward situations? Sure, I get that it's important to understand if they can do good work and help your business make money. But if you're sacrificing Life with your family and friends for this person, aren't there much more important questions? Like do they make you laugh? If you fck up, will you feel safe around them? Will they be a good friend to you and the people on your team?
